This one’s a favorite of ours. San Bernardino Pass, bridging the Hinterrhein and Mesolcina valleys in the Graubünden canton, is renowned for its picturesque scenery and the exhilarating experience it provides to climbers.

Commencing from Hinterrhein, the ascent is marked by a characteristic sequence of switchbacks. The challenging, steep switchback near the start sets the tone for an adventurous climb. As the road winds up the mountain, it unveils breathtaking vistas of lush valleys, rugged mountain peaks, and typically, patches of snow.

Atop the pass, the presence of a lake indicates its popularity not just among cyclists, but also with hikers and sports car enthusiasts.
