Finstertaler-Damm (2,335)

col de la cayolle cycling

The Finstertaler Dam, situated at an elevation of 2,335 meters, serves as a three-kilometer extension to the more renowned climb to Kühtai. Nestled in the picturesque Ötztal region, this ascent, particularly the final stretch leading to the dam, is characterized by steep gradients that are quintessentially Austrian.

Weather conditions in this area are known for their unpredictability, often undergoing swift changes. During our visit, an ongoing heatwave was unexpectedly disrupted by a prolonged period of rainfall.

As for its capacity, the Finstertaler Dam reservoir holds an impressive 60 million cubic meters of water.
