Always a nice climb, maybe even best in the winter months. The pass is located in the canton of Graubünden and is one of three road passes connecting Engadin with Grisons. The pass doesn’t have too much traffic, as cars and trucks prefer Julierpass, which is normally kept open even during the winter.
Cycling-wise the road becomes very steep on certain ramps, and wind can often be a factor. The pass follows the Albula River for a while and is somewhat more beautiful in the northern section. The second part is a little narrow and the surface can get a little rough.
Obviously, always descend with care. Pro-cyclist Gino Mäder fell on a turn when descending towards La Punt in Tour de Suisse 2023 and lost his life.
