MY FIRST DEUX MILLE

I remember it like it was yesterday! There are moments in your life that remain etched, my first Deux Mille is one of them.

We have to go back a few years, 2016. That year, I started cycling! My husband lent me his old road bike, it was put to my size somehow and I tested a day in April. Immediately I liked it, everything was done so that my little bike and I heard each other! I love sport, I love nature, being outdoors and I finally shared a common passion with my darling. Our 2016 holidays were organized according to the bike. That summer, we had to go down to the Southern Alps so that my husband could climb the big passes in the area. A first big challenge was therefore set for me too: the Galibier! He was on our road; I had already done it by car, and I found this col so beautiful! I love the mountains; I lived there all my childhood and could imagine reaching the top with the strength of his legs, it seemed incredible!

So, we were on the road, a capricious weather challenged us and this morning of July 31, when we crossed the Alps by car, we didn’t tough possible to make this climb by bike. The weather was too uncertain. But arrived in Valloire, the sun was out! On a whim, we decided to go! I had not even eaten before, I was obviously not dressed to ride but no matter, the challenge was right in front of me! Hervé, my husband tells me; we will skip the first part with the exit of the village which is steep and uninteresting, so we left the car at Les Verneys.

The climb is pretty good, I’m going at my pace, I have a good coach with me who knows the climb and helps me manage. How beautiful it was! I forget my legs looking around me, savour every moment, I take the time to observe everything around me. I remember perfectly this last ramp, so tough! Standing on the pedals, the summit gets closer to each turn of the wheel. I will do it! I did it! that’s it, I climbed my first big col, my first Deux Mille!

What an incredible feeling! I half collapsed on my bike, out of breath and then I took my husband in the arms, so happy to have done that with him. When you are at the top of such a pass like the Galibier with this 360-degree view, as you see the road snaking under your feet and you say, I come from there down there! wow! Do you know this feeling?

As soon as I arrived, I was already thinking of the next pass I will make!

These 2016 holidays were going to be rich in discovery!

Out of runway

OUT OF RUNWAY With two weeks left until the start of La Marmotte 2019, I find myself out of runway. I want to be in greater shape, ride faster and lose more weight, before the race, but it is too late now. It is tapering time. We all need to believe that what we put...

The race card

10 weeks to go You can almost feel it now. The roads are packed with riders, the weather is (occasionally) great and all you need now is to put in the miles each of the last ten weeks leading up to La Marmotte. Easy, right?! Follow the progress of our users in the...

To the finish line

SPRING TIME IS HERE Time to get out on the open roads and get some miles in the bag. La Marmotte Alpes is a 8-11 hours race and while you do not have to simulate the hours, it is a good idea to build up endurance by doing longer and longer (time-wise) rides up to 5-6...

Conquering the beast

TIME TO LOSE WEIGHT It almost feels like spring now. Time to get out on the open roads for those who do not mind a bit of cold. This is also where the change from relatively short and intense training sessions can be replaced by longer sessions, which will help on...

From Glandon to Telegraphe

OUT OF EXCUSESWe are all running out of excuses, if we want to be in the best of shapes at the starting line in July. Progress must start no later than now. While we wait for better weather, which is probably still 6-8 weeks away, spend the time on core strengths...

The patient ride to Glandon

IF IT JIGGLES, IT'S FAT Christmas time is over us and we all know what that means to the weight – and maybe even lack of efforts in a busy December. On the other hand, this is the time of the year, where we all hold the biggest motivation to get rid of the gained...
